In Israel there were 12 tribes, not including the Levites. These 12 tribes were divided into 4 groups in regards to their camping position around the Tabernacle. The Levites camped around the Tabernacle in the center. On the east side were the tribes of Judah, Issachar and Zebulon. The west side were the tribes of Ephraim, Mannasseh and Benjamin. On the north side the tribes of Dan, Asher and Naphtali. On the south side the tribes of Rueben, Simeon and Gad.
