At a distance away from the Tabernacle, you would have seen thousands upon thousands of camps surrounding it. There were over two millions people in the wilderness. The white curtain separated the Tabernacle from the outside; it was impossible to see what was behind it.

In Israel there were 12 tribes, not including the Levites. These 12 tribes were divided into 4 groups in regards to their camping position around the Tabernacle. The Levites camped around the Tabernacle in the center. On the east side were the tribes of Judah, Issachar and Zebulon. The west side were the tribes of Ephraim, Mannasseh and Benjamin. On the north side the tribes of Dan, Asher and Naphtali. On the south side the tribes of Rueben, Simeon and Gad.
